In 2010 I was the largest version of myself, tipping in at around 260 pounds (see before photo). I had rules about where my shirt could come off, essentially only in my room with the lights out. I wasn’t trying to expose the world to that mess. I had borderline high blood pressure and high cholesterol with a family history of heart disease. I couldn’t do A SINGLE pull up and my Fran time was in the ballpark of 15 minutes. I was NOT WELL. In 2011, following my wellness training, I changed the way I ate to, essentially what is recommended by the challenge. I lost 60 pounds and got better at literally everything (see after photo of my first individual CrossFit comp in Canberra). All my labs were NORMAL! Understand, that process took longer than 3 months and required discipline. Since then my eating patterns have changed very little; a diet based on whole, real foods of meat and vegetables, with occasional indulgences. Do I stray from the path occasionally? Yes, I’m human but, I also know that “Big Nate” is still in here and wants cake and nachos daily. I must keep myself in check and, forming habits over years is the key.
